The Most Dramatic Reunion Ever... Question Mark?
I was led to believe the Vanderpump Rules reunion would be event TV. It definitely happened!
So, how’s everyone dealing with the end of Succession? I feel like I had a really good meal, I think, but now I’m rounding that corner to craving my next addiction. Will it be you, The Bear season two?! Or maybe the new season of The Ultimatum, which I didn’t know was a thing until last weekend. I’ve been trying out Platonic (it’s a yes, but I must watch more before I report back), though my biggest recent TV win was finally convincing my mom to watch Succession and she’s basically binged the whole series in a week. That means I get to have those glorious conversations reliving shit I forgot about and sort-of engaging because I watched it a long time ago.
BUT OBVIOUSLY, I have been watching the Vanderpump Rules reunion. All THREE! PARTS! Over three weeks…! That ellipsis should represent the wind going out of my sails. Not that there wasn’t enough, it’s just that that exact feature may have been a bug.
Yes, there was content, yes, I’m glad I got to see it all (mostly), but damn if stretching it over three weeks didn’t wear down my excitement just a bit. Their teases that part three was going to blow shit up intrigued me, but the much-hyped third part with Raquel/Rachel finally taking part was mostly like watching an episode of Deadwood1, if “cunt”2 was the only word they used on Deadwood.
The final bit with Raquel admitting to secrets that were obvious lies anyway underwhelmed me. The first rule of Vanderpump Rules is that you always assume any suggestion is true and of anyone denies it, it’s definitely true.
I feel like I embarked on this journey back in March to catch up on what I have now just watched so I could know what people were talking about, and I did that, but my real joy has come from watching the old seasons. No, I didn’t binge all 10 seasons (I got a little baby to take care of!), but I felt like I watched enough to understand the context of the Scandoval affair and complex friendship dynamics. I’m currently in season four, which has kinda been more thrilling for me than the reunion. But whatever! I love making a list, so I will be listing out my favorite reunion moments.
Personal Favorite Vanderpump Rules Reunion Jams:
Lala. Again, I am only in season four and don’t know her as well as a VPR character, but she’s like a mean, beautiful Sandor Clegane. I’m afraid of her and I like it!
Learning James bought a house VERY close to where I live. Will I run into him?! Probably never! Still a thrill!
Schwartz taking a Xanny on camera. But thumbs down to the other cast making him feel bad about it. No one ever respects Schwartz’s mental health! Also, this man is tired. Let him rest. Also, he now says he’s taking a break from Sandoval. Um, yeah. He can use all that extra time to glasses shop!
The cozy fashions all the ladies changed into the minute they could. I didn’t know you could leap into a sweatshirt like that.
Ally seems like a nice girl. Her asking Scheana and Brock in the Vander Van about James being…a cheater… kinda broke my heart. Oh, honey.
I guess I’ve just seen multiple reunions of this show in such quick succession that this one was a little less exciting—or just overhyped, I guess. Still: Huge fan! All love.
I never watched Deadwood.
The only insult that matters!
